Discover the fascinating world of wild fungi on an intimate, expert-led full-day foraging experience with MOGU Mycology.
Led by an experienced academic researcher and forager, this 6-7-hour seasonal experience takes you into some of the finest forested areas in the Netherlands in search of edible and medicinal mushrooms. Along the way, you’ll learn responsible identification techniques and explore the ecological roles, traditional uses, folk knowledge, and cultural significance of fungi.
Your experience
- Welcome with coffee and snacks — Meet your guide and fellow foragers at 10:00 at MOGU’s central location: Piet Heinkade 43, 1019 BR Amsterdam.
- Fully provided transport — After our welcome, arranged transport will take us to carefully selected woodland locations offering excellent seasonal foraging opportunities and return us to MOGU afterwards.
- Expert-led forest walk — Learn how to observe and identify local mushroom species through guidance grounded in academic research and practical experience.
- Stories, traditions and folk knowledge — Explore how different cultures have understood, used and celebrated mushrooms throughout history.
- Culinary mushroom tasting — Return to our restaurant for a specially prepared tasting that celebrates mushrooms through flavour and technique.
What to bring
Please come prepared for a full day outdoors. We recommend bringing:
- Sturdy, preferably waterproof footwear
- Weather-appropriate clothing and a waterproof jacket
- A refillable water bottle
- A packed lunch or additional snacks (we will also provide some snacks)
Tours take place during the autumn 2026 mushroom season. To preserve the personal nature and quality of the experience, places are strictly limited.
The experience includes coffee and snacks, return transport between MOGU and the forest, expert guidance and tuition, and a culinary mushroom tasting at our restaurant.
